A new backup proxy can be deployed with one of the two types – domain or workgroup. This article explains how you can change the type of a backup proxy after it has been added to the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 infrastructure.
After you added a new backup proxy to the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 infrastructure, you cannot change its type using the product UI, PowerShell or RESTful API. This article provides you with a workaround to accomplish this change.
To change the backup proxy type, do the following: Stop all backup jobs and restore sessions running on the backup proxy. Remove the backup proxy from the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 infrastructure. Change proxy host settings: If you want to change the proxy type from workgroup to the domain, add the machine hosting the proxy to the domain. If you want to change the proxy type from domain to workgroup, remove the machine hosting the backup proxy from the domain and restart the machine. Add the proxy back to the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 infrastructure with the new type.
