Backup policies in Veeam Backup for Google Cloud are stuck at 0% progress.
This situation is caused by Google recently updating the latest Ubuntu Linux machine image available in their cloud to ubuntu-2204-jammy-v20230829. The existing worker VM methods utilized in Veeam Backup for Google Cloud are incompatible with this new image, which prevents the worker from reading the disks of protected VMs. This incompatibility results in the VM backup policies either freezing or failing.
To resolve this issue, apply patch 4.0.0.1082, which is now available in the 'Updater' section of the Veeam Backup for Google Cloud Web Console. This patch will hardcode workers to use the image: projects/ubuntu-os-cloud/global/images/ubuntu-2204-jammy-v20230727. Please refer to the User Guide for instructions on downloading and installing updates.
The forthcoming major update to Veeam Backup for Google Cloud will incorporate a fix that resolves the incompatibility and removes the hardcoded image path, allowing Worker VMs to return to using the most recent available Ubuntu 2204-LTS image.
