This article provides the locations of various VMware Horizon log files, found in different components within the environment.Note: This is an informational KB for on-site troubleshooting. Please Reference Product Documentation for detailed information on Horizon 8 Collecting Diagnostic Information for VMware Horizon Note: This article references shell folders and shell folder variables. If you have performed a custom installation, your installation may differ and your log files may not be available in the path mentioned in this article.When you install the Windows-based components, the installation log is created at %TEMP%\vminst.log_date_timestamp.In addition, an MSI installation log is created at %TEMP%\vmmsi.log_date_timestamp. Horizon Connection Server and Replica Server The Connection Server and Replica Server logs reside on the servers themselves. In the Horizon Connection Server or Security Server host, you can find the log files in one of these locations: DriveLetter:ProgramData\VMware\VDM\logs Horizon Connection Server events report Connection Server-related information, such as desktop and application sessions, user authentication failures, and provisioning errors. For more information see Horizon Connection Server Events.VMware Logon Monitor logs Logon Monitor logs are located under Driveletter:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Logon Monitor\Logs. Connection Server Backups You can find the Connection Server backups at one of these locations in the Horizon Connection Server: DriveLetter:ProgramData\VMware\VDM\backups Note: By default, the Horizon Connection Server LDAP backups are encrypted. Unified Access Gateway For UAG log collection see Collecting Logs from the Unified Access Gateway Appliance. Horizon Agent logs for Windows The location of Horizon Agent log files depends on the version of the Windows operating system used.Horizon Agent log files are found in: Windows 10 and the previous version: DriveLetter:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\logs Note: If you have a User Data Disk (UDD), the profiles directory may redirect the log files to the UDD. In this case, substitute the DriveLetter with the UDD. Techzone article - Log File Locations for Client and Agent ComponentsPCoIP logsThe virtual desktop PCoIP logs are called pcoip_agent*.log and pcoip_server*.log and they are located in the same location as the agent logs on the view desktop.The client PCoIP logs are called pcoip_client*.txt and are located in the user's %temp% directory on Windows Clients.Note: The PCoIP logs are also gathered in the Client and Agent log bundles. Horizon Client logs The location of Horizon Client log files: Windows 10: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VMware\VDM\Logs\ CDR LogsThe client tsdr logs are located under C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware-username Linux client: MKS log: /tmp/vmware-usernamePCoIP log: /tmp/teradici-usernameReal-Time Audio-Video log: /tmp/vmware-usernameUSB Redirection log: /tmp/vmware-root The Linux Client log collector is found in: /usr/bin/vmware-view-log-collector The Mac Client log collection is found in: VMware Horizon Client > About VMware Horizon Client and click Collect Support Data. Horizon Client saves log files in a ZIP file in the Desktop folder. Mac log data can be found in: ~/Library/Logs/VMware View Client.log~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.microsoft.rdc.plist~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.rdc.plist Where ~ indicates the name of the user logged into the Macintosh Client. Administrators can configure the maximum number of log files and the maximum number of days to keep log files by setting keys in the /Library/Preferences/com.vmware.horizon.plist file on a Mac client. Installation log file location for Windows Client:C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\TempThe file name is vminst.log_datestamp.log Horizon 7 Important: We recommend you migrate from Horizon 7 to Horizon 8 as soon as possible. Horizon 8 offers numerous improvements in performance, scale, and experience for both Administrators and end users. Please see Ensuring a successful migration from Horizon 7 to Horizon 8 (89840) for additional advice. Composer logs (deprecated in Horizon 8) The Horizon Composer logs are located in the computer in which Horizon Composer and vCenter Server are installed. The logs are located at: C:\ProgramData\VMware\View Composer\Logs\ The Horizon Composer Guest Agent log contains information about QuickPrep and Sysprep script execution. This log records the start and end time of script execution and contains output or error messages.Persona Management logs (deprecated in Horizon 8) Persona Management logging is managed through the Horizon Persona Management ADM Template.
