In response to future CPU support plans from AMD, Intel, and VMware’s Server partners, VMware provides the guidance below for support for servers using the CPUs shown in Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3. Many of these CPUs are already either at End-Of-Support (EOS) / End-Of-Life (EOL) from the above hardware vendors or will eventually be.Intel Skylake CPUs: Intel has transitioned the Skylake generation of processors into their ESU (End of Servicing Update) / EOSL (End of Servicing Lifetime) phase. This includes the server class Xeon- Scalable Processors (SP) series, by December 31, 2023. As a result, VMware is planning to discontinue support of the Intel Skylake family processors in the future vSphere major release after 8.0.x. For more details on processors support, please visit Intel’s site on “Changes in Customer Support and Servicing Updates for Select Intel® Processors ”.
Definitions- Future Major Release – the next vSphere major release refers to the release after 8.0.x seriesSupported – vSphere supports the CPU seriesDeprecated – vSphere installer provided a warning for imminent discontinuation of the CPU in an upcoming major vSphere release. Installation process will be permitted to continue. Note1: These CPUs will continue to be supported through the lifetime of vSphere that stated release, updates, and patches, or until End-of-General Support (EoGS). See Product Lifecycle Matrix for vSphere EoGS.Note2: Customers installing or upgrading from release N-1 to N vSphere release on Servers with the specified CPUs will continue to see CPU support discontinuation warning messages. CPUs receiving the warnings will still be supported by all current and future vSphere N releases, updates, and patches. Discontinued – vSphere installer will prevent the installation of that release for the discontinued CPU Table 1 below lists support discontinuation plan for future major vSphere release after 8.0xCustomers installing or upgrading to vSphere 8.0x releases on Servers with the specified CPUs in Table 1 will continue to see CPU support discontinuation warning messages. CPUs receiving the warnings will still be supported by all vSphere 8.0x and older releases, updates, and patches.
