Rommon fails to boot Cisco IOS software of 1GB size. During the IOSXE upgrade to IOSXE version 16.10 or newer the below log will be displayed on the console: RSA Signed DEVELOPMENT Image Signature Verification Successful. Failed to Free memory block at address 0x0000000000000000 Failed to allocate enough space for the ISO image !
IOSXE 16.10 and higher versions have image size more than 1GB. ASR1000-RP2/ASR1000-RP3 modules with ROMMON versions older than 16.9.5(r) and/or FPGA versions older than 17071402 will not be able to boot IOS image larger than 1GB. It impacts any boot method( TFTP/Harddisk/Bootflash). The Rommon version running on the RP module is displayed in the output of "show The CPLD/FPGA versions running on each module are displayed in the output of "show hw-programmable all".
