Currently, these new drives do not function in the HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module when attached to an HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module running firmware version 1.0.20.0. If these SSDs are installed, OneView will display the Model and Type correctly but will show the Capacity as “Unknown.” The “Unknown” drive capacity prevents OneView from including these drives during the creation of Logical JBODs or Logical Drives as seen below:

The documentation listing certain SAS and SATA Solid State Drives (SSDs) as a supported option for the HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Module has been updated by HPE as of February 24th, 2017. Follow the steps below to access the Synergy Downloads site and obtain the Synergy Custom Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) needed to deploy the Firmware: 1. Click the following link: www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy . 2. Download Synergy Software Release Set 3.00.20170417 (or later) The HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module must be updated to firmware version 1.0.22.0. Perform in HPE OneView the steps listed below to complete the update: 3. Upload the SPP firmware bundle to HPE OneView: From the main menu, select Firmware Bundles Click + Add Firmware Bundle in the master pane On the Add Firmware Bundle screen, click Browse to select the SPP firmware bundle file location Click OK to upload the firmware bundle to the firmware bundle repository. Keep your primary HPE OneView window open until the upload is complete. Verify that the upload completed by viewing the firmware bundle contents in the firmware bundles details pane. 4. Install the firmware using Logical Interconnect: From the main menu, select Logical Interconnects. From the master pane, select the SAS logical interconnect Select Actions -> Update firmware From Firmware baseline , select the custom bundle to install Select firmware activation method of orchestrated Click OK Verify the firmware version associated with the logical interconnect and its associated interconnects in the Logical Interconnects page under the Firmware view. Important: This issue was resolved in firmware release 1.1.5.0 (or later) for the HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module with 12 Internal Ports. Version 1.1.5.0 is available for download through HPE Synergy Software Release Sets at www.hpe.com/downloads/synergy . The Release Notes tab on the download page of each release set lists the firmware available for the HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module. Version 1.1.5.0 (or later) can also be found on the HPE Support Center following the steps below: 1. Click the following link: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/home 2. Enter a product name (e.g., " HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module ") in the text search field and wait for a list of products to populate. From the products displayed, identify the desired product and click on the Drivers & software icon to the right of the product. 3. From the Drivers & software dropdown menus on the left side of the page: - Select the Software Type - (Firmware) - Select the Software Sub Type - (e.g. All) 4. Select the latest release of Smart Component for HPE Synergy 12Gb SAS Connection Module Firmware - Version 1.1.5.0 or later (dated 07/12/2017 ). Note: To ensure the latest version will be downloaded, click on the Revision History tab to check if a new version of the firmware/driver is available. 5. Click Download RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
