Info
When updating the HPE Edgeline EL4000 switch firmware via an HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) in SNP mode, the connection to iLO will be lost and the
check update progress cannot be remotely checked. However, the firmware update can be monitored if the UID can be physically seen flashing.
During the update, other iLOs in SNP mode are disconnected and all host servers will also lose their network connections. Host servers will resume network connection automatically after the firmware update; however, iLOs in SNP mode will not.
These iLOs will require a physical power reset to reconnect back to SNP.
Scope
Any of the following HPE Edgeline EL4000 system iLO in SNP mode:
EL4000 4x10G 2x SFP+ Switch Sys (847535-B21)
EL4000 4x10G 2x SFP+ Switch PXIe Sys (847536-B21)
EL4000 4x10G 2x SFP+ v2 Switch Sys (879808-B21)
Resolution
When updating switch firmware, use the iLO port for management. These iLOs will require a physical power reset to reconnect back to SNP.
Do not use SNP mode when updating EL4000 Chassis Switch firmware.
If the HPONCFG tool is installed with the CHIF driver on the host OS, iLO can be reset via remote desktop to OS.
