HPE Power Protector (HPEPP) does not function correctly on HPE servers running VMware ESXi 6.7 (or later) due to the discontinued support for VMware vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) used to run the shutdown scripts for the HPE Power Protector software. The VMware vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) is a prepackaged Linux virtual machine in which administrators can deploy scripts and select third-party agents to manage VMware ESXi systems. Software included in vMA includes a vSphere CLI and an authentication component that supports non-interactive login. It also includes DCLI commands which allow you to manage services that are available via the vSphere REST API and are presented by the vSphere Automation SDK interfaces. Note: vMA has been discontinued for VMware ESXi 6.7 (or later). vMA 6.5 is the last supported release, refer to the vMA Release Notes for further information and alternative functionality.
Any HPE Server running VMware ESXi 6.7(or later) with HPE Power Protector (HPEPP) installed to manage any HPE Uninterruptible Power System. As a workaround to shut down VMware ESXi 6.7 without using VMware vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) or IPM (Insight Power Manager), perform the following steps below to setup and configure the environment: Deploy a Linux Virtual Machine (Debian) under VMware ESXi to protect (instead of vMA). Deploy Open VM tools on the Linux Virtual Machine. Install the software sshpass (apt-get install sshpass) and make sure SSH daemon is running. Enable SSH command on the VMware ESXi host. Connect from the Linux Virtual Machine Terminal to the VMware ESXi Host for the first time using ssh. (this step is mandatory to get a Certificate connection between the Linux Virtual Machine and VMWare host). Close the SSH connection to come back to the Linux shell. Install HPE Power Protector (HPEPP) on the Linux Virtual Machine. Set the Power Source. From the Settings Menu -> Shutdown Parameters -> Edit Configuration, select the Shutdown Script and write the command.
