For any HPE Synergy compute modules, the drive authentication performed by the HPE Smart Array SR Controller may temporarily report the following message:
"The drive in drive bay X is not an authentic drive and must be replaced"
The Smart Array controller periodically reads the Smart Carrier NVRAM of the D3940 Storage Module and verifies additional data. This read process may fail when the D3940 Storage Module experiences a reboot. As a result, the Smart Array controller will report the D3940 Storage Module drives as not authentic.
After a few minutes, the D3940 Storage Module will initialize and the Smart Array controller will report the drives as authentic.
Scope
In the scenario described above, any HPE Synergy D3940 Storage Modules running firmware version prior to 5.30, and connected to HPE Synergy compute modules configured with HPE Smart Array SR Controllers.
Resolution
This issue has been resolved in D3940 Storage Module firmware version 5.30 (or later). This version can be found in the
HPE Synergy Software Releases
page.
No user intervention is required and this issue can be safely ignored.
