On HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems) running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Server or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3, and configured with any of the HPE network adapters listed in the Scope section below; performing a firmware update of the network adapters using the HPE Blade Intel Online Firmware Upgrade Utility for Linux Version 1.2.3 or the HPE Blade Firmware Flash for Emulex Mezzanine Converged Network Adapters for Linux (x64) version 2021.10.01 may fail. Refer to the following section for more information and details about this issue: HPE Intel-based network adapters With HPE Intel-based network adapters, this issue occurs on HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems) running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3. This issue occurs because the network adapter firmware has dependency on the Out-of-Box (OOB) drivers, and currently there are no supported Out-of-Box (OOB) network adapter drivers for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3. Therefore, the online and offline firmware installation on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 is not supported on HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems) running the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) version 2021.10.0 and configured with either of the HPE network adapters listed in the Scope section below. When this issue occurs, the network adapters will not be discovered or the firmware update will not complete. If the update is performed using the Online Mode, the Firmware update components may not be in the list of components to install or the update will not complete. This issue also occurs when using the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2021.10.0 in Offline Mode. Note: Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) Version 2021.10.0 is affected by this issue because there are no supported Out-of-Box (OOB) network adapter drivers for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 and the HPE Intel-based network adapters. HPE Broadcom (Emulex)-based network adapters With HPE Broadcom (Emulex)- based network adapters, this issue occurs on HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems) running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Server. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 is not affected by this issue; therefore, a firmware update for the HPE Broadcom (Emulex) network adapters can be performed using the SPP in online mode on HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems) running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3. This occurs because the flash libraries in the component do not support Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4. The Firmware Smart Component will not update the firmware on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 and Smart Update Manager (SUM)/SPP will return an error message similar to the following: "brcmflash: Error - all required firmware and/or boot code downloads failed - Return Code=2" When this issue occurs on HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Server, the network adapters will not be discovered or the firmware update will not complete. If the update is performed using the Online Mode, the Firmware update components may not be in the list of components to install or the update will not complete. For HPE Broadcom-based (Emulex) network adapters, this issue does not occur when using the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) 2021.10.0 in Offline Mode. Refer to the Resolution section for more information. For detailed information about which versions of the Linux Operating Systems support the online mode to perform firmware updates for the affected network adapters, refer to the following table: HPE Network Adapter Network Adapter SKU Ordering Part Number Network Adapter Vendor RHEL Versions that do not Support Online Mode RHEL Versions that Support Online Mode SUSE Versions that do not Support Online Mode SUSE Versions that Support Online Mode HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560M Adapter 665246-B21 Intel RHEL 7.8 RHEL 7.9 RHEL 8.3 RHEL 8.4 SLES 15 SP3 SLES 12 SP5 SLES 15 SP2 HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560FLB Adapter 655639-B21 Intel RHEL 7.8 RHEL 7.9 RHEL 8.3 RHEL 8.4 SLES 15 SP3 SLES 12 SP5 SLES 15 SP2 HPE FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 650M Adapter 700767-B21 Broadcom RHEL 8.4 RHEL 7.8 RHEL 7.9 RHEL 8.3 SLES 12 SP5 SLES 15 SP2 SLES 15 SP3 HPE FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 650FLB Adapter 700763-B21 Broadcom RHEL 8.4 RHEL 7.8 RHEL 7.9 RHEL 8.3 SLES 12 SP5 SLES 15 SP2 SLES 15 SP3

About HPE Intel-based network adapters Out-of-Box (OOB) driver and firmware support for the HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560M adapter (665246-B21) and HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 560FLB adapter (655639-B21) configured on HPE ProLiant Server Blades (c-Class BladeSystems)running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 with the Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) version 2021.10.0 is not currently available. Important notes: For customers upgrading from Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) version 2021.04.0 to version 2021.10.0, and also upgrading to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3; there is no immediate need to update the firmware of the affected HPE Intel based network adapters listed in the Scope Section above, because the same firmware version is included in both SPP versions. For customers running Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) version 2020.09.1 (or prior) and attempting to upgrade to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3; HPE recommends to update first to SPP version 2021.04.0 before upgrading to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3 and before upgrading to SPP version 2021.10.0. Therefore, by running the SPP version 2021.04.0, the latest available firmware for the affected network adapters will be installed. RHEL 7.8, RHEL 7.9, RHEL 8.3, RHEL 8.4, SLES 12 SP5 and SLES 15 SP2 are not affected by this issue. There are no existing Out-of-Box (OOB) Drivers of these network adapters for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP3.
