On HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 or HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 servers configured with AMD EPYC 7xx2 series processors, performing a Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) Firmware Package installation/update may fail. This may occur while performing a firmware flash of the PLDM Firmware Packages (FWPKG files) for HPE Ethernet Adapters mentioned below using either of the following installation methods. Flash using the iLOrest tool: Use the following iLOrest command with the latest version of the iLOrest tool localhost OS example: ilorest flashfwpkg <file_name.fwpkg> remote example: ilorest flashfwpkg <file_name.fwpkg> --url <iLO5_IP_Address> -u <iLO5_username> -p <iLO5_password> Error message: "Error: Error occurred while updating the firmware." "This error occured during iLOREST Tool update of HPE Broadcom NetXtreme-E Firmware Package for BCM5741x adapters PLDM Fwkpg for HPE Ethernet 10Gb 2 Port 535T Adapter." Flash from the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) GUI: Browse to the iLO IP using any browser and login. Make sure the PLDM supported adapter is present in the server. Go to the iLO GUI and Click on "Firmware and OS software" from the left side, click on "Update Firmware," click on "Choose File" and browse to the supported PLDM file. Then click on the "Flash" button. The Update status will be shown on the top and a log entry can be seen in the Integrated Management Log (IML). Error message: "Firmware update failed with reason: No matching target found." Reported in iLO GUI > Information - Integrated Management Log during PLDM Fwkpg update using iLO GUI: Note: This issue affects any HPE firmware packages that support PLDM Firmware installations/update for affected servers System ROMs, system components and other optional device firmware. This is due to the affected servers configured with AMD EPYC 7xx2 Series processors which do not support Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP) over PCIe Vendor Defined Message (VDM).
Either of the following servers configured with AMD EPYC 7xx2 series processors: • HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 server • HPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 server
To prevent the issue, download and install the HPE Online Smart Component Firmware package for affected servers System ROMs, system components and other optional device firmware available in the HPE Support Center. For affected network adapters download and install the HPE Online Smart Component Firmware packages listed below instead of the PLDM Firmware package (including FWPKG file).
