While attempting to upgrade HPE OneView to Version 3.00.05, OneView's Virtual Machine (VM) Console may display the following panic message: RAMDISK: Incomplete write (##### != #####) write error Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) This may be followed by a call trace; for example:
Any ProLiant server being managed by a OneView appliance originally installed with any OneView Version before Version 1.10.03 (Version 1.0, 1.00.01 or 1.00.05).
This issue is corrected by upgrading to HPE OneView 3.00.07 (or later): https://h20392.www2.hpe.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=Z7550-63180 Before upgrading to OneView Version 3.00.05, consider whether a risk may exist. To determine if a planned upgrade may experience this issue, perform the procedure for Option 1. Option 1 : Perform these steps: Create a non-encrypted support dump using the "Settings -> Appliance -> Actions"-> then deselect the "Enable support dump encryption" checkbox: Save the support dump. It will be saved with the file extension of ".sdmp". Change the file extension to ".tar.gz". Open the .tar.gz with any utility to open compressed files (Winzip, 7z...). After the support dump file is opened, open the df.out file in the appliance\commands\ directory. Review the line which starts with "/dev/sda1". If this line is greater than 42 %, then contact HPE Support Team before upgrading to OneView 3.00.05 and refer to Engineering Advisory c05358819 . Note: This is an example of a line at 48%: /dev/sda1 146M 66M 73M 48% /boot Click on the following URL to locate the HPE Customer Support phone number in your country: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/Getdocument.aspx?docname=A00039121ENW . OR Option 2 : If an upgrade to Version 3.00.05 is occurring and the panic message displays, perform this procedure for Option 2 to revert back to the previous OneView version. NOTE: Only an administrator with access to the Virtual Machine (VM) Console can perform this procedure for Option 2. While viewing the panic screen, reset the VM. Before the panic screen appears again, press the space bar. If successful, a screen similar to the following will be displayed: It may take several attempts; however, try each line option in the above screen until the OneView Starting screen appears. The starting screen will change to "Updating." After a few minutes, the OneView screen will change to an "OOPS" screen with a restart link. Click the restart link that appears in the middle of this page. NOTE: When OneView restarts, the panic message may be displayed one more time. If so, repeat steps 2 and 3. The Starting OneView message will be displayed again. This will confirm that this procedure to revert back to the previous version has begun. After reverting back to the previous version completes its process, contact the HPE Customer Support Team before attempting to upgrade to OneView 3.00.05 and refer to Engineering Advisory c05358819 when contacting support: Click on the following URL to locate the HPE Customer Support phone number in your country: https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/Getdocument.aspx?docname=A00039121ENW .
