It is currently supported to install the 32GB PC-2133 and 32GB PC-2400 LRDIMMS on the same server blade; however, they can NEVER be mixed on the same DRAM bus or in lockstep pairs on a server blade. The blade(s) with this invalid configuration will fail Power-On Self-Test (POST) and the partition(s) will not power on. This is an architectural issue that cannot be addressed in a firmware update. If 32GB PC-2133 and 32GB PC-2400 LRDIMMS are installed on the same server blade and installed in a supported configuration AND the current firmware revision is 8.5.3 or lower, DIMM speed mismatch errors will be logged and the blade(s) that have this mix, will be indicted and marked as degraded. All of the memory, if properly installed, will be available and the partition(s) will power on. Always replace the 32GB DDR4 DIMMs with a like for like DIMM. Any HPE Integrity Superdome X BL920s Gen9 server blade installed in an Integrity Superdome X chassis or HPE ConvergedSystem S00 servers configured with 32GB PC4-2133 or PC4-2400 LR-DIMMS.
With firmware version 8.7.84 (bundle 2017.03), server blades with a mix of 32GB and 64GB DDR4 PC-2133 and PC-2400 DIMMs will no longer be indicted or marked as degraded. Before replacing the DIMM, installing any memory upgrades or making memory configuration changes, confirm what type of memory is installed and order compatible memory DIMMs. If a replacement DIMM is being ordered and the required DIMM speed is not available but the other speed is, order at least 6 DIMMS of the same speed and type in order to stay within the configuration rules of not mixing speeds within a lockstep pair and DRAM bus. To determine what type of DIMMS are installed in a specific slot on a server blade, use the "show blade info" command or the "df dimm Blade#" and locate the DIMM slot and type.
